What we do

Building quality dialogue across diverse languages and cultures is a challenge. We believe this requires three complementary and interconnected poles of excellence: knowledge, skill and language. Each is an integral part of BCL’s overall consulting work as our approach combines academic briefings, individual coaching and editorial consulting, writing and translating.

BCL Global Literacy: the power of knowledge

International dialogue and collaboration cannot be constructive and sustainable without authentic, in-depth knowledge of the other’s world-view, which may very well vary from our own in some ways

Finding common ground requires the power of knowledge.

BCL Coaching: the power of skill

It is individuals who carry messages, engage in dialogue, and build relations across cultures. Even if they carry corporate messages, the quality and sustainability of international dialogue rests on individual skills. That means, for instance, learning to listen, observe and detect budding misunderstandings due to different backgrounds, languages and world-views

Finding common ground requires the power of skill.

BCL Editorial: the power of language

Language is not just a tool for communication. In many, often imperceptible, ways it shapes our world-views. As the poet Ezra Pound reminds us, “the wisdom of the world is not contained in any one language.” Mediocre, unexciting, wooden language makes for fragile, superficial, wooden international relations. If we aim to build authentic, fruitful, constructive, dynamic and sustainable international dialogue, then we must aim for high standards of excellence in all languages.
